The Elemental Kickboxing Academy has been running since November 2008. Since moving to our new venue in September 2009 at Abbey Grange C of E High School in West Park, Leeds, the club has moved forward in leaps and bounds from increased club members to working with schools in the local area.
The instructor is David Kenyon (link to Leeds Initiative Site), a third dan black belt from Leeds and Leeds University Graduate in Sports, Health, Exercise and Nutrition (BSc). David has practiced Freestyle Kickboxing since September 1998 and taught privately since July 2006 through his business Elemental Fitness. He has experience of teaching in North America with specials needs and has plans to continue increasing his knowledge of fitness and health in the future alongside furthering his skills in martial arts through attending specialist courses in Leeds and surrounding areas where club members are welcome to come along and get involved.
David says,
‘I find freestyle kickboxing helps people to stick to a sport that they enjoy whilst learning a valuable skill that can lead to a qualification and look great on their CV! The Elemental Kickboxing Academy beats the monotony of the gym whilst helping someone reach their fitness goals. The benefits to freestyle kickboxing definitely out way any sport I’ve ever done whilst meeting some great people who have had a big influence on my life!’
Testimonials
I had previously participated in a couple of kickboxing clubs around the Leeds area, and at these clubs I never felt really comfortable until I joined EKA. It is without doubt the most friendly club I joined, I felt welcomed and not daunted by the pupils and instructor.. I joined the club to keep up my fitness and to learn a form of martial art.. The classes I attend are a constant mix and no two classes are the same.. This in itself keeps the interest alive and the grading gives you a focus and a goal to work towards….The workouts are given by our instructor Dave, who is a highly achieved third dan black belt including a degree in sport, health, exercise and nutrition, and you have a guy who really knows his stuff.. If anyone is wanting to join the most friendly and professional kickboxing academy in Leeds then this is for you!’ James ![]()
As the third kickboxing club I have been part of, Eka has the best atmosphere, best instructor, best kit, and has progressed my fitness and skills the most! The training sessions are varied, and seem to include members of all levels. There is also the chance to see yourself improve by getting belts and feedback. If you like a challenge, it’s definitely worth a try!- Becky ![]()
I use to train with David a few years ago at an older club, but sadly had to stop for a while; I wanted to get back into kickboxing and heard he had his own club. I went and the environment is very friendly and all are welcome and the other members are great. I would recommend elemental kickboxing as David’s lessons are never the same and are varied from cardio and toning to pad work and sparing, as well as other activities involving fitness and self defence, all round good kickboxing training and looking forward to progression in this practice of martial arts with this club and David’s tuition- Chris ![]()
